The purpose of the Macon County Tennessee Historical Society is to bring together those people interested in history and genealogy, especially in Macon County, to obtain and copy old deeds, ledgers, diaries, Bible records, church minutes and court records for preservation.
The main function of the Society will be to discover and collect any material which may help to establish or illustrate the history of the area: its exploration, settlement and activities. Through the efforts of the Society members, many projects have successfully been accomplished to preserve these historic records and documents.
A collection of genealogical materials is housed at the Society's Office in Lafayette, TN. Also browse through the list of books that may be found in the Society's Library.
